Running Lecture & Clinic @ MAXIM

1:00 PM June 19, 2010 General Trias, Cavite

This is not what you think it is! This is not your favorite MAXIM Magazine. This is the MAXIM Philippines Operating Corporation, an IT/Semiconductor Company located at the Gateway Industrial Park in General Trias, Cavite.

Tom Mark Obach, Chief of the Test System Support & Services of the Company and President of the Team Maxim Runners, sent me an e-mail two months ago requesting me to conduct a lecture & clinic to the personnel of the company. The lecture was initially scheduled last month but due to conflict of schedule on the part of the officers of the company’s running club, it was rescheduled for this month. After some exchange of e-mails and coordination, the lecture was finally implemented.

Waiting For The Lecture To Start

The Elite Team BR and I were fetched by Tom and company at The Fort on the morning of Saturday, June 19, 2010 for a two-hour trip to General Trias, Cavite. We arrived at the company’s ground before noontime. After the usual inspections and clearance protocol by the security personnel, we were escorted to the lecture area. The Team Maxim Runner officers were very hospitable as they served us with a sumptous lunch, complete with vegetable salad and lots of rice. They really prepared for the practical side/clinic of the activity.

Lecture: All They Need To Know About Running

The lecture started at exactly 1:00 PM and the audience was attentive with the lecture and presentation. An open forum was conducted after the lecture and also gave them tips on hydration, nutrition, shoes, training, safety/etiquette, and techniques in road races. The lecture was followed with an actual demonstration of stretching exercises led by the elites. The audience were requested to follow what the elites had demonstrated. The stretching exercises were followed with running “drills”. It was good that the lecture room was spacious that everybody was able to do the suggested running “drills”. I received feedbacks that it was their first time to know the stretching exercises and the running “drills” that the elites have demonstrated to them.

Tom Obach, Maxim's Running Club President, Generously Donated Cash For The Elite Team BR

After one hour of stretching exercises and running “drills”, we ended the activity with snacks together with the Team Maxim Runner! Before 5:00 PM, we left the Company’s grounds and we were on our way back to The Fort. Because of the strong rains and traffic along the way, we finally reached The Fort at 7:30 PM.

Post Lecture & Clinic Photo-Ops With The Maxim Running Club

The Elite Team BR and I would like to express our thanks for the hospitality of the Team Maxim Runner led by Mark Tom Obach, Alex Amores for sending the pictures & for being the official photographer of the event, and to the rest of the officers and members. Thank you also for the “memento” as your donation to the Elite Team Bald Runner. Thank you also for your plan to contribute to my Project Donate A Shoe.

With The Running Club's Officers & Elite Team BR

Hope to see you in future road races! Good luck & Stay safe always!

Help Give Shoes

MILO/Nestle Phils launched its MILO Marathon website last Sunday, June 13, 2010 and I am impressed with the site. But what impressed me most is MILO Marathon’s cause/advocacy of giving running shoes to underprivileged but deserving children in the elementary & high school grades.

MILO Running Shoes

This is one of the reasons why the registration fees for the 34th Marathon Races had increased as a portion of it goes for a small contribution from the runners for this project. For an amount of Five Pesos from each runner registered for the race, in return, MILO will donate an equivalent amount to the total fund raised.

Everystep..MILO's Help Give Shoes Project

For further details of this advocacy, I enjoin my readers/visitors to visit the MILO Marathon website at www.milo.com.ph. The video entitled “The Gift” is nice which I know most of you have seen it on the TV commercials.

Let us support this advocacy. Register now and join the 34th MILO Elimination Races & Finals.

See you on July 4, 2010 at 4:00 AM.

Running Lecture & Clinic @ IDS

4:00-6:00 PM May 26, 2010 @ IDS Compound, Bagumbayan, Quezon City

It could be a simple telephone call, a comment in my blog, a text message, an e-mail, or a conversation, I am always willing to give a Running Lecture & Clinic to any corporate office or group of runners anywhere in Metro Manila and its suburbs. But this time, it’s different because the request came from a runner-blogger who is a close friend. Bards aka Banana Running sent me a text message and it led to the realization of a Running Lecture & Clinic among the staff and employees of IDS (Integrated Distribution System) which is based in Bagumbayan, Quezon City.

Introductory Part of the Program

The Running Lecture & Clinic was integrated as part of the company’s health and wellness seminar program for its employees. I am also glad that the Bald Runner and its Elite Athletes were there to be a part of this program. Through Ms Tess Baltazar of IDS, the running lecture & clinic was fully coordinated and my team was received properly upon our entry to the compound.

Lecture Was Done Inside One of the Warehouses

The lecture and clinic were limited to only 2 hours as the window of opportunity for the whole program/seminar. The lecture started on time at 4:00 PM of May 26, 2010, Wednesday in one of the big warehouses of the company. After a short introduction, I delivered my lecture with the aid of the usual Powerpoint presentation which I delivered within one hour. After giving me a surprise award and cash (that goes to the training & support to the Elite Team Bald Runner), my team and host brought the participants at the parking area of the company.

Group Picture With The Staff of IDS After The Lecture
The Basic Running Clinic Was Conducted By The Elite Runners

The running clinic started with stretching exercises, then running “drills”, demonstration of running form, and the whole group did some group running at the parking area. The clinic was new to everybody and it was fun for the participants. The group was happy to experience the activity. I hope the running lecture and clinic were enough to “spark” the employees’ interest in running and ultimately, adhere to running as a way to embrace an active healthy lifestyle.

The running community welcomes the IDS Running Club! See you on the road!

The Running Priests & Adventure Runs

I’ve been trying to browse the Internet if there are “documents” or “daily accounts” available to back up the running experiences of Fr Robert Reyes and his running mates in their “adventure runs” throughout the country in the past.

In one of my meetings with the Race Organizers/Directors at the PATAFA Office, Mr Ben Alacar, father of ultrarunner Ian Alacar. mentioned that he was among the runners that accompanied Fr Reyes’ ultra runs in the country. I was surprised when he told me that it took them 8 days to run from Laoag City to Manila in 1998. WhenI asked him about their daily accounts/documentations, he told me that the GOMBURZA group which Fr Reyes led, was the repository of these running accounts.

Anyway, I still persisted to browse the Internet and I was able to find this link of a document written by Fr Robert Reyes which is worth reading about the running priest’s story. In the said article, I found out that he did the following:

“I have run and biked in Europe, the United States, Australia, China and now Hong Kong. I ran across the Philippines in three phases from 1996 to 1998 (1996, from Cotabato City to Cagayan de Oro; 1997, Across Samar, Leyte, Cebu, Bohol, Negros and Panay; 1998: from Laoag to Manila and Sorsogon to Manila).”

Among the runner-bloggers, we have also Fr Amado Picardal who is presently based in Davao City. His blog is a repository of his daily running adventures in the South/Mindanao which is worth reading because he features his training/preparation, nutrition, and all the details about his runs with the appropriate pictures. His personal story and beginnings in running is featured in the latest edition/copy (3rd) of the FrontRunner Magazine.

I have yet to find out who was that Candidate For President in the past elections (in the 80s or 90s) who did his campaign throughout the country by running from one town to another with only one support vehicle! I hope he did not cheat in his running adventures during those times! Although this running-candidate for President did not win, I really do not know if he was able to get votes after the ballots had been canvassed then by the COMELEC. (Note: If somebody among my readers know the name of this candidate, it is worth meeting this guy for an interview!)

Going back to Fr Reyes & Fr Picardal, these running priests are also “cycling priests” and their “feats” had been admirable. I salute them for their cycling and running achievements! But personally, I don’t buy or use running as a means “to create awareness on political and economic issues” confronting our country and people.

In my analysis, these priests could easily plan for these “adventure runs” because they have an “in-place” organization that supports them along the route they take. Every town has a church and a priest or priests in them. Sometimes, every city has a cathedral, group of priests and a seminary. These in-place facilities are easily accessible to these priests as their “pit stops” and “transient homes” for them during their adventure runs. They are really blessed!

If I have a plan and means to do what these famous “running & cycling” priests have done in the past, it would be best for me to stop in every capital city of every province to lecture to elementary and high school children about running and I might also include colleges and universities, too! But my planning would take longer as I need proper coordination as to where I will have my “rest over night” during my adventure run. I have yet to look for some sponsors for my future adventure runs! Wish me luck!

Good News!

This is a good news to our athletes. Knowing that Athletics, Swimming, and Boxing had been the consistent medal-earner for our athletes in the Olympics, Asian Games, and Southeast Asian Games, it is about time to develop the full potentials of our citizens to these sports. I do hope that the following pronouncement of Representive-Elect Manny Pacquiao will lead us to another level of sports competitiveness with other countries knowing him as a world’s top boxer that the country had produced so far!

With the following news & statements coming from a world-top elite athlete and now as a politician, I might be eating my words when I said that “Politics and Sports do not mix”.

Having been the Project Director of the DND-AFP Gintong Pangarap-Marathon (RP’s 1st Olympic Gold in Marathon) for more than 3 years before my retirement from the AFP and as the Head of the Elite Team Bald Runner Distance Project for the past 2 years, I think it will take Representative Manny Pacquiao for the remaining years and months before the 2012 London Olympics to produce our first Olympic Gold Medal, if not, up to the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Olympics with the hope that he’ll be re-elected for his 2nd term.

Rep. Pacquiao’s priority: Help RP win 1st Olympic gold

MANILA, Philippines – Boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao has yet to take his seat in Congress as Sarangani province’s lone district representative, but he already has in mind several projects he wants to pursue.

Foremost among his priorities is to help the country win its first Olympic medal.

“’Yan ang pangarap natin na makakuha tayo ng gold [sa Olympics],” said the congressman-elect.

Pacquiao said this goal will be one of his priorities in Congress, aside from providing livelihood to fishermen and farmers in Sarangani.

The Philippines has yet to win an Olympic gold medal since it joined the quadrennial event in 1924.

Pacquiao said it doesn’t matter which sport he will prioritize as long as it generates the elusive gold medal.

“Sa boxing, kahit ano, basta tutukan lang natin at kelangan lang ng suporta ng ating mga kababayan,” he said.

Pacquiao is also optimistic the party-list group Pwersa ng Bayaning Atleta (PBA), which he chairs, will eventually secure a seat in Congress.

He said PBA, which aims to represent amateur athletes in Congress, will help him realize the Filipino people’s Olympic dreams.

The closest the Philippines has gotten to an Olympic gold medal was during the 1964 Tokyo and the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

Anthony Villanueva reached the gold medal round in the 1964 Olympics, but lost a controversial decision to Soviet Union’s Stanislav Stepashkin in the featherweight division. He took home the silver medal.

Thirty-two years later, in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, Mansueto “Onyok” Velasco took home a silver medal after also losing a controversial decision against Daniel Petrov of Bulgaria in the final round of the light flyweight division.

The Philippines has also won 7 bronze medals in the Olympics.

The Filipino Olympians who have won bronze medals are: Teofilo Yldefonso (2), Simeon Torribio (1), Miguel White (1), Jose “Cely Villanueva (1), Leopoldo Serrantes (1) and Roel Velasco (1). — With a report by Dyan Castillejo, ABS-CBN News

Running Lecture @ METROBANK Technology, Inc.

MBTC Technology, Inc (MTI) or METROBANK Technology is the IT arm of the METROBANK Group.

Randy San Miguel and Jerry Adriano of METROBANK Technology, Inc. had been training with the BR’s “Speed” Training Sessions at the ULTRA Oval Track for almost two years already and they are very dedicated in their training every week. It was only two months ago that Randy invited me to conduct a Running Lecture and Clinic to the office/corporate institution where he is working as he had to make some planning and coordination with the administration and getting a good crowd of his officemates who are interested to know the “basics” of running.

Randy and Jerry are inseparable during our training workouts at the ULTRA Oval Track as they belong with the same office. They are dedicated runners and had been joing competitive races from 10K distance to the full Marathon distance. I also observed that they always run together in their competitive road races. I can say that they are already veteran runners! So, when they asked and invited me to conduct a running lecture, I immediately approved their request.

METROBANK Running Lecture Participants

So far, this could be the biggest group of corporate personnel who attended the BR’s Running Lecture & Clinic. Almost 70 personnel were present at the Training Room of the METROBANK Technology, Inc. in Makati City. I am confident that these participants will form the core of the company’s running club in the future.

The "Basics" of Running & "Tips" To Enjoy Running

This activity was conducted a day before my team left for Jeju, South Korea last March 23, 2010. The lecture started at 5:30 PM and finished at 7:00 PM. Coach Titus Salazar had his turn to demonstrate technical matters and “tips” on running. The lecture hall immediately turned into a jogging hall when all the participants were requested to imitate what Coach Titus was demonstrating to them.

Hoping That All The Participants Will Start To Enjoy Running
Coach Titus Demonstrating Some Techniques In Running
Participants Were Made To Do Actual Stretching Exercises

All the participants were made to stand up and were made to do the “must do” stretching exercises before and after their running workouts. They were made to “jog in place” and experience the feeling of running with midfoot footstrike as compared to “heel strike” running.

Another View of the Participants Doing Their Stretching
Post-Run Stretching Routine Demonstration

The members of the Elite Team Bald Runner were made to demonstrate the proper running form and running “drills” after the stretching exercise demonstration made by the participants. The practical portion of the running lecture and clinic was fun as the group enjoyed doing their “jogging in place” and stretching exercises.

Before the lecture was concluded, there was an Open Forum where Coach Titus Salazar and I answered some questions and clarifications from the participants ranging from injuries, treatment, nutrition, running shoes, and training programs. After a group picture with the Officers and Staff of the said office, the activity concluded at 9:00 PM.

Group Picture With METROBANK's Electronics Division's Officers & Staff

Let me take this opportunity to thank the following officers of the said company—Francis Carandang, the First Vice-President of Consulting Division, who is a runner who joins weekend races in Metro Manila; Marijo Caronongan, Vice-President for Human Resources; and Nikki Oxales, First Vice-President for Quality Assurance. Their concern for the welfare and healthy lifestyle of their employees through this running lecture is exemplary and commendable. I hope more corporate heads will follow in this endeavor.

Lastly, thanks for supporting the Elite Team Bald Runner!

Running Clinic @ Ortigas Properties

Last March 1, 2010, I conducted a Running Lecture and Start of a 3-month Running Clinic among the Officers, Staff, and Employees of the Ortigas Properties. This is an evidence that more corporate offices are taking advantage of the Running Lecture and Clinic of the Team Bald Runner for them to be equipped with the proper information and knowledge about running.

Attentive Staff & Employees of Ortigas Properties

The lecture was conducted at 4:00 PM and after the Open Forum, the actual running clinic and demonstration was continued and held at the ULTRA Oval Track which is very near from the Ortigas Properties Building. Coach Titus Salazar took command of the Warm-up Exercises, Drills, technical know-how on the proper running form, strides, and the implementation of basic principles in sports training in order to prevent any running related-injury to the body.

More Than 35 Personnel Attended The Lecture & Clinic

The “common denominator” in these running lectures and clinics where I’ve been invited was a result of good leadership of the corporate “bosses”. If the boss or head of the office is a recreational or competitive runner who believes in the positive benifits of running, it is 100% that he/she tries to motivate and influence his/her staff and subordinates to get into running or in any kind of physical exercise or activity.

Open Forum Was Conducted After The Lecture

The officers, staff and employees of the Ortigas Properties had been diligently attending the Team BR’s Running Clinic at the ULTRA Oval Track on Monday afternoon and sometimes in any day of the week. for the past month. Since they are now enrolled as students or trainees in our BR Running Clinic & Speed Training, the group has paid P 500.00 each as their training fee for the duration of 3 months. Basically, this is the cheapest fee that is being asked from anybody who wants to train properly in running.

We hope that these running lectures and clinics that we, at the BR’s Events had been conducting, had greatly contributed to the efficiency, health and well-being of the officers, staff, and employees of the corporate offices that invited us for these lectures.

Race Director’s Report: 2010 BDM 102

I presented this report during the “Get Together & Awarding Ceremony” of the 2010 BDM 102K Ultramarathon Race last March 11, 2010 at the Tejeros Hall, AFP Officers Club in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City. This post then is for the benefit of my readers who were not part of the 2010 BDM 102 and who in the future would like to experience this ultrarunning event.

Top 10 List: What Is Unique About The BDM 102?

10. It commemorates the infamous Bataan Death March of World War II along the exact route where history happened. This is in honor of the 20,000 to 25,000 soldiers who died during the said March.

9. At present, the BDM 102 is the Longest Solo Road Race in the country.

8. Every Finisher within the cut-off time of 18 hours is awarded with a medal & individual trophy.

7. A Test of One’s Endurance Limit.

6. A Test of Teamwork between the runner & his/her support crew.

5. A Race where every runner helps each other to finish the course.

4. A Running Event where you can have a “fashion show” of your running apparel.

% of Finishers: 77% % of Finishers: 81.25%

On Comparison of the 1st BDM 102 with the 2nd BDM 102:

1st BDM 102:

1. The result that I published was UNOFFICIAL due to the following reasons: (a) there were “cheaters” and I personally observed cheating among the runner-participants; (b) the Actual Route was not followed as the leading runners did not pass “critical” kilometer posts along the way.

2. I was the Race Organizer and Race Director and also one of the Runner-Participants.

3. There were Aid Stations in every 20 kilometers plus a Breakfast Station at Km Post #50.

4. There were four (4) Checkpoints where I placed “secret marshals” who handed color-coded wrist bands.

5. There were Cash Prizes to the Overall Top 3 Male & Female Categories and Trophies to Top 3 in the Age Category for both Men & Women Categories.

6. There were seven (7) Foreign Runners but only five (5) finished. There were five (5 lady runners but only two (2) of them finished.

2nd BDM 102:

1. The result that I published a day after the event was OFFICIAL.

2. The prestige and integrity of the race were maintained as there were no reports of cheating among the runners.

3. The actual route of the BDM was followed.

4. I was the full-time Race Director of the event.

5. I removed all the Aid Stations, instead, each runner must have his/her Support Vehicle & Support Crew in order to compete in this event. The halfway Aid Station at Km Post #50 was maintained and it offered breakfast, foods & drinks to all the runners.

6. Submission of a Medical/Doctor’s Certificate for each runner is a MUST.

7. I have placed seven (7) Time Stations & Checkpoints that gave colored string necklace to every runner.

8. Final Briefing & CarboLoading Party were conducted two days before the Race Day. Administrative matters were done during this event.

9. No Cash Prizes. Awards/Trophies were given to the Top 3 Men’s & Ladies’ Categories.

10. There were eleven (11) Foreign Runners and all of them finished. There were thirteen (13) Lady Runners but only ten (10) finished.

2010 BDM 102 Winners

Men’s Category

Champion: Alvin Canada—10:01:5 hours

1st Runner-Up: Randy Bumahit—10:44:27 hours

2nd Runner-Up: Jonnifer Lacanlale—11:01:47 hours

Women’s Category

Champion: Whreachelle Cordova—16:00:07 hours

1st Runner-Up: Raiza Tulan—16:23:01 hours

2nd Runner-Up: Maria Myrna Emelyne Buenafe—16:38:48 hours

Observations:

1. The Last Day of Registration and Payment of Fees for Invited/Qualified Runners were scheduled six (6) weeks before Race Day.

2. The responsibility of logistics/support was given to the individual runner.

3. Some of the runners are still fond of last day submission of race requirements.

4. Administrative matters were done during the Final Briefing & CarboLoading Party which resulted to a shorter processing at the Starting/Assembly Area during Race Day.

5. For this year, the Race started earlier (11:30 PM of Saturday) and it was finished earlier, too!

6. Published Rules & Regulations were followed but some minor violations were observed.

7. Our Time Stations/Checkpoints were effective to pinpoint/deter cheaters. We deployed more checkpoints this time.

8. Support Vehicles were more responsive to the needs of the runners than placing stationary Aid Stations.

9. There was a tie in 4th Place. This thing will never happen again or else both runners will be disqualified for pacing with each other.

10. There were some runners who registered to have Support Vehicle but in reality, they were not supported by such vehicle. A stricter measure will be implemented in the next edition in order to monitor runners without any support vehicle.

11. Some runners lack “heat training” and the necessary training to finish an ultramarathon distance race. They understimated their supply of water & drinks needed for the road race.

12. There were cases of “bandit” runners. I had to warn Norio Tanaka from Runnex, a finisher in the 1st BDM 102, to stop running during the race as he was a “bandit” in the race. Another unidentified runner was also warned to stop “brisk walking” at Km Post #14.  Guys, if you want to “bandit” in my race, please don’t do it! If you want to experience running the BDM route, please don’t do it during my race day. You have the remaining days of the year to do it by yourself.

13. Some runners have two or more vehicles tagging along with their authorized support vehicle. I know that this race is a family affair among the participants but please limit the vehicles tagging along with the support vehicles.

14. We did not commit a mistake in our Finisher’s Medal. What you see in your Finisher’s Medal is the Official Seal of BDM 102 with the year 2009 as its founding year. I requested the finishers to have the date of the 2010 Bdm 102 engraved at the back. In next year’s edition, we will correct and place the engraved date at the back of the medal.

1st Father & Son Finishers—Major General Samuel D Narcise & Lemuel Narcise

Assessment:

1. 2010 BDM 102 was a successful event. Although we did not earn any profit or proceeds from this year’s edition, the support of the “Friends of the Bald Runner & Team BR-Professionals” covered the expenses/support for the additional logistics and activities to make this event a successful one. The BDM 102K Ultramarathon Race will remain to be a simple race devoid of unnecessary “distractions” and funfare.

2. Planning and Execution were almost perfect this time due to the experience from the 1st BDM 102. Our staff, volunteers, and marshals were fully briefed, rehearsed, focused and coordinated for the event.

3. The weather conditions were extreme but runners were able to adapt to the situation.

4. Teamwork & Unity were displayed among competing runners and support crew were responsive to the needs of the runners.

5. Lastly, this event would not be successful without the support & cooperation of the runners/support crew; sponsors & supporters; volunteers; and the Elite Team Bald Runner & Staff. Thank you very much!!!

See you on the 3rd BDM 102 & 1st BDM 151!!!

“thanks for your support” (Jeju’s Trip)

Last October 2009, I received a formal letter from the International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU) informing me that the Philippines had been officially accepted as a member of IAU through the Philippine Association of Ultrarunners (PAU) which I created and organized. IAU officials informed me that the Philippines is the 6th ASIAN member and the 45th member worldwide.

After two weeks, I received an invitation from the IAU for our country to be represented in the 1st Asian IAU 100K Championship Race to be held in Jeju Island, South Korea on March 27, 2010. Attached with the invitation are the protocol and requirements for participating in the said race. The Event Organizer, South Korea’s Ultrarunning Federation, invited 3 men & 3 women whose accommodation and food will be provided free for the duration of only two days. The participating runners are supposed to be the best and most qualified ultra runners that the country could offer.

The desire to join in this competition was so strong on my part but the big problem was the logistics/financial support needed for the plane tickets of the athletes. As of November 2009, I met all the members of the Elite Team Bald Runner and asked them who would “volunteer” to train for the 1st Asian IAU 100K Championship Race. Alquin Bolivar & Frank Indapan came forward to accept the challenge and started to train from then on.

Last year, I also thought of sending the top Male & Female Champions of this year’s BDM 102 to Jeju’s 100K Ultramarathon Race but the timing/schedule was not conducive for the best performance of our athletes as they are on their “recovery” mode barely weeks before the event after the BDM 102.

Being a relatively new running sports, ultramarathon is “alien” to our government sports officials, moreso, to our friends in the government and corporate world. So, I did not want to be frustrated again to be begging to these “personalities” for some financial support for me to send our country’s representatives to this IAU-sanctioned international event. My experience with the government & corporate world in the 1st BDM 102 will never happen again.

The only way to make this invitation to materialize and succeed was to ask help from the “Friends” of the Bald Runner and they came in full force to donate the needed amount for the visas, plane tickets, travel tax, and training/competition support to Alquin Bolivar & Frank Indapan. The following are  the “running angels” and their respective donation/s to the members of the Elite Team Bald Runner for Jeju Island:

Jeju International Airport
Frank & Alquin Inside the Shuttle Van

As of this morning, the Elite Team Bald Runner and PAU’s representatives to the 1st Asian IAU 100K Championship Race had arrived in Jeju Isalnd, South Korea. The place is nice, clean, orderly, cold and windy.  We were met at the airport by the representative of the Race Organizer and we were brought to our Hotel which is at the very center of Jeju City.

It is very hard to find somebody here who could speak English! But by walking and jogging on the main streets of the city, we were able to find familiar fastfood establishments and shopping malls where to eat and buy much needed water, food and fruits.

Korean Version of McDo ( We Did Not Eat There Yet!)

I found out later that this running event will also be the 9th Jeju International Ultramarathon Race and the Jeju International Cycling Race which will be held on the same day. The circumferential road of this island will definitely be dedicated to the ultra runners and cyclists on Saturday.

All International Runners Are Staying In This Hotel

Note: We are wearing the Official Jacket of the Philippine Association of Ultrarunners (PAU)

Tomorrow will be another day to run and acclimatize with the weather ( rainy, cloudy & windy) of the island. A formal program, briefing, and carboloading party will be held tomorrow afternoon. It would be a nice time to meet other international elite runners and ultra running sports federations leaders/officials.

Hopefully, the following goals/objectives will be attained in this race:

1) The IAU 100K Championship Race (no cash prize for the winners, only medals will be awarded to the top 3 runners) will set the Philippine Record in 100K Ultramarathon Race in an IAU-sanctioned event. Winning this event is our ultimate goal but with Japan’s attendance/presence in this event, simply finishing and setting a National Record Time for the distance from our runners will be a great accomplishment already.

2) The Philippines, through the Philippine Association of Ultrarunners (PAU), will be represented to an IAU-sanctioned ultra race for the first time. This will expose our country to other ultrarunning countries.

3) The Elite Team Bald Runner goes International as we will be using our official uniform-singlet, courtesy of MILO/Nestle, Philippines.

Once again, for those who supported and continued praying for us, thank you very much. God bless to everybody!
