It was a busy day for me yesterday, Thursday, as I attended two separate meetings, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, with government offices in Metro Manila. I was not able to have my early morning running workout because of these meetings. Even if I decided to have my afternoon run after my meeting, I could not squeeze in enough time because I had to meet my staff and talk to some people in my office. So, I was in my long-sleeved Banana Republic polo shirt & Club Monaco pants with matching Salvatore Ferragamo belt and shoes when I attended, for the first time, the third session of Running Aid Clinic/Lectures by Neville Manaois and the Pinoy Ultra Runners. 179 Days: Comments For PNP Runners
In reaction to the post I made last Monday entitled, “You Will Be The Judge”, I received the folowing comments from my friends/visitors of this blog:
(1) From: Kinderdorf—Lakay,
This is revolting and it sucks! Perhaps the PNP officer should go to Sam Tucay’s reform school and if he does not reform, be shipped back as cargo!
27 minutes for a 10k! No way! If they ran a 27 minute 10k then they should have qualified for the Olympics.
I know that Mr. Sabal can really run but the PNP people are virtual unknowns.
180 Days: Adidas KOTR; Another “Runabout”; & Others
I got my race packet for the Adidas “King of the Road” (KOTR) 21K Race last Monday. Inside the race packet is a nice and expensive Adidas runner’s singlet, a flyer for the Adidas Shoes recommended to be used in specific road race distances, and the race bib. I think I am lucky this time to get the following race number.

183 Days: HIM3 @ Ayala Alabang
6:30 AM 05 October 2008 @ “Hope In Motion 3″/Ayala Alabang
I woke up at 4:20 AM, took my pre-race ritual, shaved my head, made sure to wear a red-colored running shirt as instructed for the 10K runners, ate oatmeal with ripe banana, and wore my new NIKE Lunarlite Racer. I really wanted to use this new NIKE racer shoes for this particular 10K race, my first 10K race since I arrived from the USA. I had a hard time looking for this kind of shoes when I was in Los Angeles. I only found this shoes being sold at the NIKE Store at The Grove-Farmers Market Shopping Mall at 3rd Street in Fairfax District.
184 Days: Another Trail Run & Track Run
I had a brief trip outside Metro Manila for business purposes towards the Southern Tagalog area on the evening of Wednesday. I was not able to run on Thursday as I had to meet some people the whole day. On the early morning of Friday, I was able to run a distance of 8.2 kilometers on the trail in one of the mountains in Quezon Province. It was a slow run but I was able to sweat it out and flex my running legs even if I was on a business trip.
187 Days: “Dirty & Noisy Manila”/”Runabout”
5:30 AM 30 September 2008
I woke up early at 5:00 AM, had my morning ritual, wore my running kit, and picked-up my The North Face Hydration Pack (where I packed my camera, cellphone, ID and cash) and I was out of my place at 5:30 AM.
I had a 3-hour “runabout” along C-5, EDSA, Buendia Avenue, Fort Bonifacio, and The Fort. I was able to cover a distance of 23.06 kilometers in 2:57:48 hours to include my time in brisk walking, crossing the road along the pedestrian lanes, climbing pedestrian overpass, eating two servings of “taho” along the way, buying Propel Vitamin Water in one of the 7/11 Stores and taking some pictures along the sidewalk of EDSA.
I had an average pace of 7.52 kms/hr; 1,597 total calories spent; total ascent of 1,128 meters and total descent of 1,118 meters. Continue reading “187 Days: “Dirty & Noisy Manila”/”Runabout””
188 Days: JFK 50 & Monday Recovery Run
On the early part during the administration of US President John F Kennedy in the early ’60s, he revived the challenge of past President Theodore Roosevelt for the US Marines Officers and US Armed Forces to run and hike a distance of 50 miles (80 kilometers) in 20 hours carrying with them their individual provisions (food and water). Soon, this was adopted as part of the Physical Fitness Program for all the Officers and Enlisted Men of the US Armed Forces and was conducted throughout the United States. There was a team competition of this “JFK 50-Mile Challenge” then where a team was composed of 10 officers or enlisted men and the five (5) lowest/fastest time were cumulated to represent the team’s finish time. The lowest/fastest cumulated time for a team won the much-coveted “Kennedy Cup”. This Hike-Run Challenge was open to the public but it maintained its reputation as a military event. 189 Days: “Never Stop Exploring”
8:15 AM 28 September 2008: Trail Run at Tagaytay/Mt Batulao, Cavite
After my experience of competitive trail runs and exposure to trail running workouts while I was in California for two months, I started to look for places near Metro Manila where I could run along the mountain trails. After reading the posts and blog of High Altitude, I asked him to accompany me to the trails of Tagaytay which happened to be the trail route used for the The North Face (TNF) 100K Trail Run last July of this year. So, after I arrived in the country, I coordinated with him for a taste of trail running in one of the Sundays of this month.
I left Manila at 6:00 AM of Sunday for Tagaytay and was able to meet with Jerry aka High Altitude; Aldz; and Arjay at Silang, Cavite. After picking them up, we proceeded to Evercrest and started preparing our things for the trail run. We left the premises of Evercrest and followed the trail route for the TNF 10K run. The trail was very challenging because of the mud and slippery condition. We had to jog, run, and jump along the trail with all those loose mud and water along the way. 191 Days: “Running Generals” (Part 2); Gym Workout; & Update On Bataan Ultra Run
After coming from a 2-hour workout at Gold’s Gym this morning, I received a SMS from LT GEN Alan Cabalquinto (Ret.), a “running general”, my partner in past marathon races, my former “boss”, and my “idol’ as a commander and a leader in the Armed Forces of the Philippine, informing me that he just read my post about “Running Generals” which I posted during the early days & weeks of this blog. The said post was a “tribute and honor” to the members of the AFP who rose to the rank of General (Star-Rank) who had the passion and commitment to running. Lt Gen Cabalquinto (Ret) was glad to know, through this blog, that I had kept the faith and love in running. In return, I was happy to inform him of my project on the Bataan Death March Ultra Run and I was glad to know that he sees to it that running is still a part of his daily activities. Sir, my snappy salute to you! How I wish our active military and police Generals have still the attitude and strength to show to their officers and men that they are really good “examples” and “models” of physical fitness, not in words but in deeds.
