Friends of Bald Runner

The following pictures were taken after the 4th Bonifacio Global City Run last Sunday, 20 April 2008 infront of the Project Donate A Shoe Booth. I consider these weekend “road warriors” who had posed with me as the “Friends of Bald Runner”. If I can not recall all their names, it’s because the Bald Runner is already old to memorize each one in the pictures. So, please leave a comment on this post so that I can identify you on a nickname basis on those pictures where I could not identify you.

Annalene (“Annalene’s Story”) and her daughter, Faye.

One of my daily visitors, Nolan V Llanora.

RUNMD, a regular visitor of my blog and my brother, Samie.

Also a regular reader and visitor who checks my blog in the morning and in the evening, Jun Cruz from Pangasinan.

The couple, Lester and Margarette Choayap, who were beside me at the Starting Area conversing each other only to be surprised with the blast of the starting gun. This couple donated a pair of running shoes to the Project Donate A Shoe. To Lester & Margarette, thanks for supporting the Project Donate A Shoe.

I forgot the name of this fellow runner.

These are the members of the Philippine Army Running Team who are Senior Officers assigned at the Headquarters Philippine Army. On my right is Colonel Noel Miano of the Office of the Chief Ordnance and Chemical Service of the Philippine Army who is also a “passionate” weekend “road warrior”. He brought with him four (4) of his subordinates in the 10K Run.

The runner on my right is Ray and these are his running mates. From left is Grace, Jun, Ray, Josh and Sonny. I hope to see you again in the next road race. Good luck and keep on running.

On my right is Colonel Oscar Lopez of the Philippine Army, a “passionate” runner who encourages all his subordinates in his office to run and he leads his soldiers to weekend road races in Metro Manila. Except for my brother, these runners are his subordinates.

Colonel Noel Miano on my right with an unidentified lady runner who finished the 10K run.

This runner was wearing a “national uniform” with the colors of our flag and our flag itself. I guess this runner is also with the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

DATC (in sunglass & headband), one of my regular visitors to this blog. He was one of the donors of the Project Donate A Shoe during the 4th Bonifacio Global City Run.

These are lady soldiers from the Philippine Army who joined the race.

    sir,
just some additional information. just like my mistah, col. oscar lopez (i’m also a col. sir, he he), i also brought along 4 of my men. this is my 3rd 10k run after the mizuno and OYM runs. My personal best is down to 52:24 from 55:40, still way off your 47:52. My next target is 50 flat.

    Hi Bald Runner,
That’s actually me (Bib # 211) in the second picture from the top -Nolan, definitely your daily visitor.
Congratulation on the time, Sir. I did an unofficial time of 45:30, which is two minutes slower than my GK’s run in MOA the other week. I think I got carried away by the elite runners during the start here at Global, and I went too fast with them during the first 5K. By the second round, I felt I was running too slow, and indeed most runners were starting to overtake my position. I realized it is really better to maintain a consistent pace, rather than do an initial rush and then run out of gas later. I’m thinking a GF would really help in monitoring a consistent pace, but I understand you said you were not even looking at your GF until the last kilometer of the race. That’s really impressive!
I hope to do better on my next race na lang. When are we running next, Sir?
I hope to run with you again soon. More power to your blog and the Donate A Shoe Project.

Hi Bald Runner, I’m the one in the 2nd to the last picture. I’m a daily visitor to your blog too.

Congratulations on this worthy project, it seems it’s picking up a lot of steam and generating a lot of interest. In last Sunday’s race, I noticed about 3 kids no older than 10 years old running barefoot too. Maybe your readers would like to donate children’s running shoes as well.

    See you at the races!

noel, i am sorry. i forgot that i was the chairman of the philippine army board of senior officers which recommended your promotion to full colonel. that’s the problem with a retiring general like me..hehehe..thanks for the comment & i was able to correct my post immediately.

nolan, congrats for the fast finish time and don’t be sad about it. take time to evaluate yourself and then prepare again for the next race. always consider three things to work on—speed play/fartlek; tempo play at race pace; and your endurance long distance runs. i might join the 25th Runnex Run on 04 May. hope to see you there. thanks for supporting the project donate a shoe.

datc, i am sorry for the mistake & i am glad you posted your comment. thanks for supporting the project donate a shoe. my staff reported about those “barefoot” running kids and we’ll help them soon.

nicole/moloki, you should had approached me at the project donate a shoe booth after the race. anyway, don’t miss the chance next time. i’ll be ever thankful to you for the support you will extend to the project donate a shoe. let us help our less-fortunate runners to enjoy running without any injury. hope to see you soon!
