7:00 PM 31 October 2008 @ Bonifacio High Street (BHS) Loop, The Fort
Whoever thought of this run, he/she should be congratulated for thinking and implementing this run for the first time in the country. The race was a 5K run which takes every runner to go around the BHS loop for four times. As I arrived at the vicinity of R.O.X. Store one hour before the start of the race, I already concluded that the race was a success. Lots of runners, with their relatives and friends, in their different costumes and outfits appropriate for a Halloween Party were everywhere at the BHS area waiting for the race to start.
Even if there were no cash prizes at stake for the said run, “Team Bald Runner” fielded some of its runners for the fun and be part of the inaugural Halloween run. The car maker Isuzu was the main sponsor for this event and they did a good job in organizing this event. Although there were some slight “hitches” and “minor” problems, the race was something to look forward to join every 31st of October.
I did not run this race but I was at the Assembly Area talking to the members of Team Bald Runner and observing the things that were happening around. Bro J, one of the “runner-bloggers” approached me and we had some picture-taking and brief conversation. While waiting for the race to start, I had time to go to the sports stores within the BHS area.
The race started at 7:00 PM with the elite runners at the front part of the assembled runners. Once the race started, the elite runners were so fast to clear the crowd of runners and the excitement started when most of the runners in their Halloween costumes and outfit were slowly leaving the starting area. As each runner passed the starting area for four times, I could see a lady in Wonder Woman attire (who won in the Women’s Best Costume Award); ladies in bridal attire with their grooms; a lady runner in short bathrobe, shower cap & “tabo”; lady runners in high school uniform; men & ladies in Fairy God-mother attire; runners in Ninja-attire; Spiderman, Ironman, Cinderella, other Super Heroes; Vampires; Draculas; and Coach Rio in a “Cupid” attire with “big & white” wings (who won in the Men’s Best Costume Award).
Members of the Team Bald Runner won 4th & 5th Places in the Men’s Overall and 1st & 3rd Places in the Women’s Overall Categories. After the awarding ceremonies, I treated my runners with Pancit Lucban and Cassava Cake (Budin) from Market! Market!
At this time, I am now thinking of joining and what to wear in next year’s “Shake, Rattle, & Run” 5K Halloween Run.
