Running Clinic @ LANDBANK

Annalene Bautista aka The Meek Runner is an avid and passionate runner. She started running almost three years ago and became the role model of her family that she was able to motivate her husband and children to be involved in every road race as runners every weekend. One of her kids is already an upcoming competitive triathlete and her youngest daughter had just finished a half-marathon race. Last May of this year, she became an accomplished marathon (42K) finisher from “The Bull Runner Dream Marathon”

Running Lecture @ TUP Audio-Visual Room

Her exemplary actions with regards to physical activities and active lifestyle had spread out to her staff and employees at the Land Bank of the Philippines. Her initiative to spread the benefits of running to everybody in her office or area of responsibility led to the conduct of a Running Lecture & Clinic. After exchanges of e-mails and text messages, the lecture & clinic was held last August 2, 2010 at the Audio-Visual Room of the Technology University of the Philippines (TUP) in Manila.

40+ Landbank Staff & Employees Attended

On that evening, the weather did not cooperate with us as it was raining hard. The lecture and clinic were conducted indoor. After an hour of lecture on the Basics and Training Principles of Training in Running, the Elite Team Bald Runner demonstrated the different stretching exercises while the audience did they own part of doing the same exercises. After the stretching exercises, the elites demonstrated some running drills and the correct form of running.

Stretching Exercises

An open forum was conducted and questions from the audience was answered, ranging from training, injuries, selection of shoes, and nutrition. After 2 to 2 1/2 hours, the running lecture and clinic was finished with a decision from the group to have a special arrangement for training for the whole group for a minimum of three (3) months.

At present, the Land Bank Running Group under Annalene Bautista have already attended two (2) sessions of their formal training to become future competitive runners in road races. So, runners out there should watch out for this group as they come in in full force to join the many thousands of road runners during weekend races.

To Annalene, her family, and to the rest of the Land Bank personnel, thank you very much for inviting us to your physical fitness program and for your support to the Elite Team Bald Runner with the hope that each one of you will make running as part of your lifestyle.

Running Clinic @ Thomson Reuter

Mark Hernandez of Thomson Reuter is one of the avid ultrarunners based in Metro Manila, having finished the 2010 BDM 102 and the 1st PAU 50K Race. He is the one spearheading the activities of his company’s Running Team. As part of their active lifestyle and sports activities, he requested me to conduct a running lecture and clinic to his officemates last month. Finally, on the early morning of July 31, a running lecture and clinic was conducted to almost 20 persons in their office.

The running lecture started at 6:00 AM and it was followed with an open forum and discussions. The clinic was conducted outside the office, along the wide streets of McKinley Hill. Stretching exercises, running “drills”, and a 15-minute easy run was led and conducted by the members of Elite Team Bald Runner.

Running Lecture & Clinic @ IDS

4:00-6:00 PM May 26, 2010 @ IDS Compound, Bagumbayan, Quezon City

It could be a simple telephone call, a comment in my blog, a text message, an e-mail, or a conversation, I am always willing to give a Running Lecture & Clinic to any corporate office or group of runners anywhere in Metro Manila and its suburbs. But this time, it’s different because the request came from a runner-blogger who is a close friend. Bards aka Banana Running sent me a text message and it led to the realization of a Running Lecture & Clinic among the staff and employees of IDS (Integrated Distribution System) which is based in Bagumbayan, Quezon City.

Introductory Part of the Program

The Running Lecture & Clinic was integrated as part of the company’s health and wellness seminar program for its employees. I am also glad that the Bald Runner and its Elite Athletes were there to be a part of this program. Through Ms Tess Baltazar of IDS, the running lecture & clinic was fully coordinated and my team was received properly upon our entry to the compound.

Lecture Was Done Inside One of the Warehouses

The lecture and clinic were limited to only 2 hours as the window of opportunity for the whole program/seminar. The lecture started on time at 4:00 PM of May 26, 2010, Wednesday in one of the big warehouses of the company. After a short introduction, I delivered my lecture with the aid of the usual Powerpoint presentation which I delivered within one hour. After giving me a surprise award and cash (that goes to the training & support to the Elite Team Bald Runner), my team and host brought the participants at the parking area of the company.

The Basic Running Clinic Was Conducted By The Elite Runners

The running clinic started with stretching exercises, then running “drills”, demonstration of running form, and the whole group did some group running at the parking area. The clinic was new to everybody and it was fun for the participants. The group was happy to experience the activity. I hope the running lecture and clinic were enough to “spark” the employees’ interest in running and ultimately, adhere to running as a way to embrace an active healthy lifestyle.

The running community welcomes the IDS Running Club! See you on the road!

Running Lectures (Accenture & SIL)

Accenture @ Robinsons Cybergate: April 20, 2010 (7:00-9:00 PM)

A group of almost 50 participants attended my running lecture and I was surprised to see a big crowd of “newbie” runners willing to gain information on the proper way to train and participate in weekend road races. It is unfortunate that this company was so strict on its security protocol—no laptop of visitors to the building and no camera/picture shoot from my personal camera during the event.

Runner & Lecturer

After 2 1/2 hours of lecture and demonstration of stretching exercises and correct form of running, we had a brief open forum where I was able to answer the questions of the participants. I was informed during the dinner tendered to us after the lecture that their company was able to muster 350 runners to participate in one of the weekend road races at The Fort.

I would like to thank Bernadette San Miguel, Ilo Trinidad and to the rest of the organizers of the Accenture Running Club for the hospitality and warm reception they have given to our team.

Dinner After The Lecture

SIL @ Mandaluyong on May 12, 2010 (12:00 NN-1:30 PM)

This is the second time that I did this kind of arrangement for my running lecture—lunch meeting/lecture. I did this kind of lecture-meeting with the Officers & Staff of G-7, Philippine Army through the invitation of Colonel Dan Lucero who heads the office. A group of about15 officers were at the Office’s Mess Hall as the participants of my lecture. I delivered an improntu lecture while we were eating our lunch. After we finished our luch, it was time for the Open Forum. Since this lecture-meeting, I’ve been receiving positive feedbacks about their improvements in their weekend road races.

Through the invitation of Joey Carreon whom I met at the ULTRA Oval Track a few days before this activity, I had the same lecture format at the company where he is working. While having lunch with the rest of the Heads and Staff of SIL, I was able to lecture them on the General Principles of Training of Running; Tips on Running; and the Do’s & Dont’s for a “Newbie” Runner. The lecture was not complete without answering the questions and concerns of the participants. In my estimate, there were at least 20 participants during the lunch-meeting/lecture. The lecture-lunch was finished at exactly 1:30 PM just in time for everybody to be back in their respective offices/cubicles.

I was surprised to learn that there is an outfit called SIL which is located at the 2nd Floor of Metrobank Building at the corner of Julia Varga and San Miguel Streets. This company had been continously discovering the different native/ethnic dialects in the country and the whole world! And they are translating important books to every dialect. The heads and staff are multi-nationals and I was able to talk to a retired US AirForce Officer/Pilot who had a chance to rub elbows with the AFP leaderships and there was this Chinese-Canadian who was also attentive during the lecture.

Through these running lectures & clinics, I was able to meet a lot of people and with the hope that more of our countrymen will be motivated to walk, jog, and run towards adherence to an active healthy lifestyle.
