181 Days: Back2Back Runs

After running 20+K last Sunday, I decided to continue my training the following day for a recovery run. The best place to have my recovery run was at the oval track because the track is more forgiving to my tired legs than the cemented/asphalted roads. Plus, for the simple reason that there are more runners at the oval tract.

I started my run at 5:50 PM yesterday and I was surprised to see a lot of runners and walkers. After a brief stretching, my run started as slow one with an Average Pace of 5:37 mins/km and I was able to finish 5 laps. I really didn’t know what made me decide to run the next 2 laps at a faster pace and finished it in 3:38 minutes ( average pace of 4:13 mins/km). Every 2 laps was followed with one lap recovery run. I ended doing another 3 sets of 800-meter runs whose times were: 3:50 mins; 4:11 mins; and 3:55 mins. After my last recovery lap, I ran another 8 1/2 laps with an average pace of 5:49 mins/km. I was able to run a total distance of 10.6 kilometers. I went to bed at 9:00 PM.

181 Days: Last Week’s Recap

I was able to run a distance of 81.84 kilometers for the past week (29 Sep-05 Oct 2008). I ran three times at the ULTRA Oval Track; one “runabout”; one trail run; one 10K race (“Hope In Motion #3) with additional 10K run after the race for a long run.

It was almost the same number of kilometers I had ran from the previous week (81.98 kms). I started to increase my pace during my speed runs at the oval track which resulted to a better time on last Sunday’s 10K race.

182 Days: “You Will Be The Judge”

While I was running at Ayala Alabang for the Hope In Motion 3 yesterday morning, elite runners being supported by Bald Runner’s Events were competing also at ULTRA, Montalban, and Cebu City. However, the TAKBO! BREAST FRIENDS Road Race which was held at PhilSports Complex (ULTRA) by Soroptimist-Ortigas was something to talk about or worth mentioning in this blog. I want my readers to express their comments as the following story deals with values in competitive sports.

183 Days: HIM3 @ Ayala Alabang

6:30 AM 05 October 2008 @ “Hope In Motion 3″/Ayala Alabang

I woke up at 4:20 AM, took my pre-race ritual, shaved my head, made sure to wear a red-colored running shirt as instructed for the 10K runners, ate oatmeal with ripe banana, and wore my new NIKE Lunarlite Racer. I really wanted to use this new NIKE racer shoes for this particular 10K race, my first 10K race since I arrived from the USA. I had a hard time looking for this kind of shoes when I was in Los Angeles. I only found this shoes being sold at the NIKE Store at The Grove-Farmers Market Shopping Mall at 3rd Street in Fairfax District.

184 Days: Another Trail Run & Track Run

I had a brief trip outside Metro Manila for business purposes towards the Southern Tagalog area on the evening of Wednesday. I was not able to run on Thursday as I had to meet some people the whole day. On the early morning of Friday, I was able to run a distance of 8.2 kilometers on the trail in one of the mountains in Quezon Province. It was a slow run but I was able to sweat it out and flex my running legs even if I was on a business trip.

186 Days: “Rain Won’t Stop Me”

5:50 AM 01 October 2008

The rain briefly stopped when I decided to have my oval track run at ULTRA. But when I approached the premises of the PSC/DECS compound, it started to rain and it got stronger when I reached the Grandstand of the Oval Track. I was surprised to see a lot of runners doing their workout while it was raining. After a short stretching and warm-up exercises, I joined the group of runners at the track.

I was able to run a distance of 13.19 kilometers in 1:07:50 hours while it was raining.

187 Days: “Dirty & Noisy Manila”/”Runabout”

5:30 AM 30 September 2008

I woke up early at 5:00 AM, had my morning ritual, wore my running kit, and picked-up my The North Face Hydration Pack (where I packed my camera, cellphone, ID and cash) and I was out of my place at 5:30 AM.

I had a 3-hour “runabout” along C-5, EDSA, Buendia Avenue, Fort Bonifacio, and The Fort. I was able to cover a distance of 23.06 kilometers in 2:57:48 hours to include my time in brisk walking, crossing the road along the pedestrian lanes, climbing pedestrian overpass, eating two servings of “taho” along the way, buying Propel Vitamin Water in one of the 7/11 Stores and taking some pictures along the sidewalk of EDSA.

I had an average pace of 7.52 kms/hr; 1,597 total calories spent; total ascent of 1,128 meters and total descent of 1,118 meters. Continue reading “187 Days: “Dirty & Noisy Manila”/”Runabout””
