Pictures: On Your Mark 10K

I was talking to one of the runners, MSgt Lando Ugay, of the Philippine Army before the start of the run.

Miraclecello/Cecil (with his back on the camera) and company of mountaineers at the starting area.

At the Starting Line

Another picture at the starting line.

The 5K and 10K races started at least two minutes before 6:00 AM. Both races started at the same time.

At far left is Zhon Marc Bello who donated his running shoes to the Project Donate A Shoe after the race. On the right side is my brother who joined in the 5K race with his wife.

I stayed briefly at the booth of the Project Donate A Shoe after the race and had a brief talk with my brother.

On my way to change my wet running kit, Don, one of my regular visitors/readers called my attention and he introduced himself. In his comment, he asked me about the Garmin’s outlet here in the country. Now, he is wearing a brand-new GF 305 which he ordered in the US. With Crecensiano Sabal nearby, we had a pose at the parking area. Congrats to C. Sabal for winning the 10K race. Don, welcome to the GF Club! Keep on running, buddy!

No pictures of me were taken by my staff while I was running the 10K run. I reminded my staff again to take at least one picture of me while I am running. I need to have a “feedback” on how I run and be able to evaluate my running form.

To my fellow weekend “warriors”, I will be seeing you again at the 4th Global City 10K Run at The Fort.

Keep on Running!

hi bald runner! congrats for finishing the 10k oym run with better time!

i am a frequent visitor of your blog but too shy to introduce myself (maybe in the global run this Sunday i will approach you) but with what i witnessed yesterday in the Bayani Run in MOA, i think i need to… (we joined that race instead of the OYM because Bayani was announced ahead of time).

BTW, going back to the real purpose for posting this, i noticed that there was this guy (i was not able to get his name) running without shoes. He joined and finished the 10k run with his bare feet. Initially, i reacted that maybe that is his style to be noticed.

After the race, while waiting for our certificates, i saw him in front of the church trying to get something….. well, he got his package wrapped in plastic bag, it was his pair of shoes, not for running but a totally dilapidated, torn rubber shoes with holes on the sides. He wore it without socks either.

My daughter approached him and even congratulated him to ignite a conversation but he left in haste.

Maybe, just maybe if i will spot him again… i will try to get his name and contact number and refer to your project donate a shoe.

Your project can really help less fortunate runners like him…

Hi Bald Runner! Congrats on your run at On Your Mark!

I ran at the GK Bayani Run at MOA, and I also saw the runner annalenemb was talking about. It was really impressive to see him run in barefoot; and heart-warming after annalenemb mentioned about his old shoes. What a passionate runner he is!!!

By the way, I hope someone from the GK Run ( someone with the Garmin) will also confirm the length of the route at MOA. I ran at MOA before, during La Salle’s Animo Race, and I always feel that the one round of the route is a legitimate 5K; and therefore, the two rounds is a legitimate 10K length! I timed in at 43:30, and so far that is my PR for a 10K Race.

Sir, I hope to see you at the Fort next week. I hope the Organizers have a correct length of the race. Let’s go for PR again!

    Hi nvllanora1975,

I ran the animo La Salle race last year and got 10.21 on my Garmin 305. If its the same course then you should be fine. Great time!

annalene, this is the reason why i came to this idea of donating my “old but still reliable running shoes” because i’ve seen these less-fortunate runners with “torn, worn-out & dilapidated” running shoes in past races i joined. but your story made me “sad with misty eyes” and the more that i am inspired to pursue this project. it is nice to see smiling faces of runners who had benefited this project and i could see them in every weekend races. i am glad more of our runners are heeding the call to donate their shoes. if ever you see that “barefoot runner”, please lead him to our booth and we’ll see what we can do to change his old shoes. thanks for the comment & story. hope to see you this sunday.

nolan, i had the experience to run at MOA but i never had my GF 305 then. i am glad mark answered your question. congrats for the PR time. that was my time for the 10K when I was 35 years old..hehehe..see you this sunday at The Fort and hope to have another PR time.

mark, thanks for the answer of nolan’s question. i was also in that animo run but i was barely regaining my interest in running from the time i stopped running road races in the 90s.

Thanks for the info Mark. Actually, GK’s Race last Sunday started/finished in front of the Church (Animo started at I-max area), but the overall route is practically the same as La Salle’s Race last November!

See you and the Bad Runner at the Fort on Sunday!

Hi RunningShield. How much did you purchase your GF 305 in that store near Farmers Market? I’m just canvassing. There is one store in Trinoma that sells it at Php 19K+. At Amazon, it sells at USD 215.
    Thanks.

Hahaha The Bald Runner is Bad. : ) Its best to buy the forerunner abroad and have it sent home via Johnny Air Cargo. You can opt for sites such as Amazon. Your savings will be around 4 to 5k including freight from NY to Phils since Geotech already lowered the price. He sold it to me for around 19k last Feb 07. Advantage is having them take care of warranty. If you do it by yourself, I have the contact info for Garmin Asia.

Optional accessories I recommend are the carrying case and the new foot pod that is compatible with the forerunner 50 and 405. Carrying case will make sure you have your stuff together and safe. The new foot pod is smaller and can be easily interchanged between shoes. I now have a spare foot pod (original version) Just let me know if anyone is interested.

Foot pod is used to know your strides per minute. In the case of the Forerunner, it shows up as cadence. So having 90 rpm is really 180 strides per minute. It also works when there’s no gps. The gym treadmill or areas with a lot of buildings (Eastwood). You can use the gps and get strides per minute readings at the same time.

Patrick, the name of the store is Info Max. It’s at M2 Level of Trinoma.
I called up Geotech this morning (thanks Bald Runner for the numbers), they raised back the price of the GF 305 to 19K. Maybe the demand is really increasing.

    nvllanora1975,

19k was the price I got way back Feb 2007. Prices should have gone down now. Tell them Patrick referred you and he got it for only 15k. I : )
