14 January 2008 (6:00 PM-7:00 PM/Evening Run)

I am back in Jamindan yesterday afternoon after finishing the 2008 Clark Freeport 10K Run in the morning. I was in a hurry to be back in Manila to catch my plane trip back to Capiz scheduled to depart after lunch.

The Commanding General of the Philippine Army arrived early this morning (6:30 AM) in Roxas City to visit my Division Headquarters in the mountains of Jamindan. From my camp, I had to fetch him and his party from Roxas City Airport using two Huey Helicopters of the Philippine Air Force. It was his first visit to my Command Headquarters since he assumed the highest position of the Philippine Army, four and half months ago. This visit was his fourth attempt as the previous scheduled trips had been cancelled due to sudden and more important commitments in Manila. After visiting my camp and talking to my troops, he visited also two major units under my command in Dingle, Iloilo. He and his party left the Iloilo Airport for Manila at 3:00 PM.

Instead of using the Huey Helicopters back to my camp, I opted to ride my service vehicle/van from the Iloilo Airport back to Jamindan. The trip took me at least three hours for a distance of 160+ kilometers due to bad roads and more roads under repair along the way.

Immediately after I arrived at my quarters, I changed to my running attire and ran 6 miles or 9.6 kilometers along the two-mile route inside the camp. It was an easy & relaxing run with a time of 57:02 minutes, with an average pace of 9:30 minutes per mile or 5:56 minutes per kilometer.

Elapsed Time—57:02 minutes

Time In Zone (135-165 HR)—46:54 minutes

I expect to have more miles/kilometers to run this week before the 2008 Subic Half-Marathon this coming Sunday.

Cebu (Mountain) Run

10 January 2008 (AM Run)

I was supposed to start my early morning run today at 6:00 AM but I started fixing my clothes and uniform for the day after waking up from my bed. Anyway, I finally started my run at 7:00 AM after doing at least 20-minute stretching exercises inside my room. I left the Hotel building taking the road going up to the mountains at the back of Marco Polo Hotel.

The road is so steep and winding going up to the mountains in Barangay Busay of Cebu City. There are so many cyclists taking this road as their favorite route because of the challenging terrain and lesser traffic. I was the only one running/jogging going up to the mountain of Busay. I ended my run into the mountain when I reached the Mountain View Subdivision area and it served as my turning point back to the Hotel.

In my estimate, I covered a distance of 5-6 kilometers going up the mountain in Busay with an average pace of 9-10 minutes per kilometer.

On my way back to the Hotel, I was running at a faster pace because the road was downhill except for few meters of flat and ascending portions of the road. Upon reaching the Hotel, I extended my run by going around the Hotel’s Parking Area and towards the extension area which served as my cool-down run.

My run covered an estimated distance of 12 kilometers or 7.5 miles with a time of 1:32:14 hours. This running workout was an easy and very slow run.

The following data were taken from my TIMEX Watch Zone Trainer Digital Heart Rate Monitor:

Elapsed Time—1:32:14 hours

In Zone (145-165 HR) Time—1:15:22 hours

Maximum HR—163

Minimum HR—92

Treadmill Run

09 January 2008 (10:45 PM-11:30 PM)

I arrived in Cebu City at 9:00 PM today. I have an official activity to attend tomorrow at the Central Command, AFP in Lahug, Cebu City.

Whenever I am in Cebu, I have the opportunity and privilege to stay at Marco Polo Hotel, courtesy of the Central Command. At this time, I will be staying in Cebu for two days and two nights before going back to Jamindan. Cebu is still within the Area of Operations of my Command.

After settling my things in my room at the Marco Polo Hotel, Cebu, I immediately changed to my workout attire and proceeded at the Hotel’s Fitness Center located at its Basement.

I had my treadmill run for about 40 minutes with an average pace of 5:00 minutes per kilometer. My speed registered at 13.3. The treadmill also registered 8 kilometers or 5 miles as the distance I ran and 550 calories I burned.

My TIMEX Watch Zone Trainer Digital Heart Rate Monitor registered the following data:

Elapsed Time—40:08 minutes

Time In Zone (145-165 HR)—32:56 minutes

Maximum HR—168

Minimum HR—122

Average HR—154

Total Calories—559
