Race Report: 4th Fort Striders’ Run

6:13 AM 26 October 2008 at The Fort

The race is called the 4th October Run Festival Race which is organized by the Fort Striders Running Club.

After exposing for the first time the “Team Bald Runner” at the 1st Mayon Trail Run last Sunday, this race was the second exposure of the team in road races and its first exposure in the road races in Metro Manila, as a team wearing their outfits/uniform.

As usual, I woke up early at 4:00 AM and did my “ritual” before leaving my place. I was already at the vicinity of the starting area at 5:00 AM and made my final preparations to include stretching and warm-up jogging for about 30 minutes. I started to sweat and took some more time to slowly jog along the streets of The Fort. At least 15 minutes before the scheduled start time of the 10K race, I entered the assembly area and met the “usual friends and runners” who regularly visit this blog. It was a nice experience talking to these “road warriors” before the race as we try to be relaxed and calm before the gun was fired. I also saw and waved to some of the “runner-bloggers” while waiting for the race to start. After the rendition of the National Anthem and Invocation by one of the Fort Striders’ members, the runners were warned that the Mayor of Taguig City City will be firing the starting gun. All of a sudden, without the usual coountdown from 10 to 1, the fire went off and the race started at exactly 6:13 AM based from my watch. Continue reading “Race Report: 4th Fort Striders’ Run”

“Team Bald Runner” Invaded Bicol & Crowned As “King of Mt Mayon”

Two weeks ago, I formally organized “Team Bald Runner” as an elite group of distance runners based in Metro Manila whose aim is for its members to qualify for future international games and eventually, to the Olympic Games. My outfit, Bald Runner’s Events, provides the training and coaching; accommodation in Metro Manila and food/medical support; employment; and travel & food support to races outside Metro Manila. Initially, I have ten (10) athletes—7 male & 3 female. Most of these athletes are regular winners of road races in Metro Manila. I, together with my staff, manage these athletes and advise them where they are scheduled to compete. If there are cash prizes to be awarded to the top runners, for sure, Team Bald Runner is there. It should be noted that whatever cash earned by any of the athletes is his/her own to keep and we only provide them the necessary advise to save their earnings or advise them to send their earnings to their homes to support their family. 174 Days: Adidas KOTR Official Results & BHS Evening Run

Thanks, RunningDatcom and The Bull Runner , for posting the results of the Adidas “King of the Road” 10K and 21K races.

My official time for the 21K race was 1:47:56 hours with an average pace of 5:09 minutes per kilometer. I was # 100 among the 717 finishers and placed # 10 among the 50+ years old runners. My GF 305 finish time was slower by one minute from the digital clock’s time at the finish. This was the reason why I was wondering why my watch was registering 1:47+ while the digital clock at the finish line was showing 1:46+ before I reached and passed the finish line. Anyway, “officially” my time was 1:47:56 hours but I would rather stick to my GF 305 finish time (1:48:55 hours) for my personal record. 177 Days: Adidas 21K @ 1:48:55 Hours

After running 13+K yesterday morning, I treated this 21K run this morning as one of my weekend long runs and I did not expect much to get a better time and I kept into my mind to have fun and enjoy the run. There was no massage this time two days or one day before the race as I was busy with my running workouts and meeting people for the past days.

I woke up at 3:45 AM today after going to bed before 8:00 PM last night. I did the usual ritual before the race and I was out of my place at 4:35 AM with a plan to make some warm-up and stretching near the starting area. After 10 minutes, I was already near the assembly area as the starting line was totally different place from the previous races in the past. After stretching, I entered the “corral” for the 21 K runners at least 5 minutes before the start time. While waiting for the gun to fire, I met my visitors to this blog and the officers and men from the Philippine Army. We were at least 5 meters from the front runners and busy talking with my former officers and men. Suddenly, the gun was fired and we were off for the 21K race. Based from the data I got from my GF 305, the race started 5 minutes before the scheduled start of the race and it showed a good sign for an outstanding race. 182 Days: “You Will Be The Judge”

While I was running at Ayala Alabang for the Hope In Motion 3 yesterday morning, elite runners being supported by Bald Runner’s Events were competing also at ULTRA, Montalban, and Cebu City. However, the TAKBO! BREAST FRIENDS Road Race which was held at PhilSports Complex (ULTRA) by Soroptimist-Ortigas was something to talk about or worth mentioning in this blog. I want my readers to express their comments as the following story deals with values in competitive sports.

183 Days: HIM3 @ Ayala Alabang

6:30 AM 05 October 2008 @ “Hope In Motion 3″/Ayala Alabang

I woke up at 4:20 AM, took my pre-race ritual, shaved my head, made sure to wear a red-colored running shirt as instructed for the 10K runners, ate oatmeal with ripe banana, and wore my new NIKE Lunarlite Racer. I really wanted to use this new NIKE racer shoes for this particular 10K race, my first 10K race since I arrived from the USA. I had a hard time looking for this kind of shoes when I was in Los Angeles. I only found this shoes being sold at the NIKE Store at The Grove-Farmers Market Shopping Mall at 3rd Street in Fairfax District.

193 Days: Insights On Milo Run (Laoag City)

I have the folowing insights and observations on the conduct of the Milo Elimination Half-Marathon Race held in Laoag City last 21 September 2008:

1) Local Government and Sports Development—My impression during the race was that the local government was used as a “contact point” for the Milo Run Organizers to conduct such race in Laoag City.  Local government officials were at the Start and Finish Line to Fire the Starting Gun and to present awards to the winners. In short, they were there for “exposure” and the “image” that they were promoting sports awareness to the people in Laoag City and Ilocos Norte. These local government officials were also late for the scheduled start time of the race.

2) Lack of Runners—I can not believe that there were only about 40 runners for the Half-Marathon Elimination Race. Out of the 40 runners, five of us came from Baguio City and Metro Manila; one female runner; at least 15-20 runners belong to the 40+ age group; and the rest were local runners. This is a sign that physical fitness or running is not well-exposed in Laoag City/Ilocos Norte. There is a need to develop more runners and promote physical fitness awareness for the province. In contrast with the lesser distance races during the Milo Run in Laoag City, 90% of the runners where children with ages 10-14 years old. About 200 children joined the other races to include some beginners among the adults. It seems that these children were obliged by the school authorities to join the race and be at the starting area at 5:00AM. Some of these children even came from the neighboring towns of Laoag City.
