Pictures @ 2nd Champion Run

6:00 AM 11 May 2008 @ The Marikina Riverbanks

The following pictures were taken before and during the 2nd Champion Road Race (Run Along Marikina River):

Eric aka Passion Runner and Jo aka The Loony Runner with me few minutes before the start of the race.

After a very slow pace at the start, I was trying to regain the lost time where the road/path was wider by increasing my pace. This was the halfway point where I overtook some of the police trainees and other regular weekend runners.

I was wearing a Mizuno Running Kit which was very comfortable and light. The running shorts did not give me any problems with my groin and inner upper legs. I was using my old reliable ASICS Gel-Cumulus 8 as my running shoes.

This picture was taken 400 meters away from the Finish Line and I was increasing my pace and found out from my GF 305 that I was about to reach 11.0-kilometer mark. I finished the race in 57:05 minutes (Official time results at www.runrio.com). I was surprised about the distance as I was not able to hear the announcements from Coach Rio before the start of the race. I was busy doing my warm-up jogging at the rear area, far away from the Starting Area.

    Hello Bald Runner!

I also ran the 2nd Champion Road Race yesterday. My time was a bit slow, maybe due to the narrow portions of the route where runners were shoulder-to-shoulder. Nonetheless, I had a great time. Hope to see you again next week!

ray, thanks for the visit & comment. you are right, there was no enough space to freely overtake other runners who were slow and the crowd was bigger than the crowd at UP and at The Fort road races. i just made that run as my LSFD (long slow-fast distance) run for the day. you bet, for sure we’ll see again next sunday! i will be at market! market! 5-mile run. the longer, the better! happy running.

grabe, ang mahal na! 22K for a GF 305! it’s a sign that there is indeed a running boom in the country! Lakas siguro ng demand. Last February, garmin’s were not being sold in the country, the local distributor had to order it pa sa states. And at that time, the 22k would have already netted the GF 405 with HRM. Umm… try contacting marnavcopi@yahoo.com. Baka they could give a cheaper price…

runmd, my daughter bought my GF 305 in the US online last january for almost the same price that you indicated. that is a good deal already as compared to the local price. it is almost double in price. welcome to “GF 305 Club”.

loony, you are right! there is a “running boom” in the country right now and it follows that there is also a big demand for the GF 305. by the way, i am wondering how were you able to get your per kilometer/mile split time with your GF. see you at the next race!

loony, yup, it was a nice picture. it was the first time that my driver used a digital camera after briefing him how to use it and made some tests with me. i am glad he did it good with our picture!

Hi BR and loonyrunner. Check this website: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/compare.do?compareProduct=349&compareProduct=11039&compare=compare. It compares GF 305 and 405. Which is really the better model? I noticed that 405 can be used as a watch unlike 305 but it’s almost as big as a wall clock! I don’t think I’d want to use it everyday. I am actually satisfied with my nike triax C6 because it monitors my heart rate, counts my calories, and tells me the time BUT does not measure the distance and pace. I have to visit this website (http://www.bx3.com/phil/tri/tricalc.asp) just to calculate my pace. Naiinggit lang ako kay BR when he tells us how far he ran. This is the reason why I practice running in the treadmill when I go gymming and not practice on the road. With the GF 305, I can run anywhere anytime, right? c”,)

Thanks for the advice loony, I will email your friend.

runmd, amazon.com has the same price with that of yellowstonegps and i think you have a good deal already. i can’t say anything about the GF 405 because i haven’t seen it yet and had never read any comment/review about the product. i am just apprehensive how sensitive is the bezel of the 405 is. that is where you push for the functions of the watch. anyway, i have observed that more runners are using the GF 305. once again, welcome to the “GF 305 Club”! happy running!

hey BR, I get my splits by setting my GF to go on autolap mode sa training options. So I don’t have to press the lap button every kilometer, the watch does it for me πŸ™‚
The local distributor has sent me an email and the reason their price increased was because of increased taxes imposed on them by customs. (Of course I’m still not discounting the fact that with increased demand and limited supply, prices will definitely go up.
It’s one advantage of the 405, its more “watch-like,” but the battery still lasts for 10 hours only… so you can’t use it all day, unless you bring its charger with you.
See you at the next races! πŸ™‚
