“If you think it will be exciting to run along the Skyway, think again!”

I just had my 30-minute “active recovery” run at the Mall Of Asia (MOA) during the BDO Walk For Life 3K & 6K Walk/Run Event. On my way to MOA, I tried to look at the portion of the Skyway where the Condura Half-Marathon Run will take its route. I observed that once a runner reaches the Skyway level from the Buendia side, it will be an uphill climb up to the Magallanes Flyover and slightly going down on the way to the turn-around point. It should be noted that the height of the Skyway is higher than the ordinary flyovers that we have in Metro Manila.

I’ve never tried to use the Skyway in my life and the sight of the Skyway as I passed under it on my way to MOA and back to Makati made me nervous and not excited afterall. It looks like I will be running towards the peak of a big hill! I hope my hill runs, hill repeats and “stair” drills for the past days will be enough to prepare me for the challenge of running the Skyway portion of the race. I hope also that I will be able to implement my race strategy and at least, improve my finish time for the Half-Marathon.

Good luck & Sleep early tonight.

Nice point S’ Jovie., and we must also to consider that we will be running almost directly under the heat of the sun, no shade, no trees, no tall buildings..And no spectators to at least cheer us up along the way.

See you tomorrow and I’ll try to be there early to get my race packet etc.

God bless you and your family.

  2. we looked at the skyway portion also last wednesday. my mantra for tomorrow. what comes up must come down … eventually. 😛 the skyway just like the kalayaan flyover goes up and then rolls up and down. see you tomorrow BR!

Br naman, Im afraid of heights! If its any steeper than the stair climbs we did last time at ultra, Im in trouble. Otherwise, all should be well. Hope they have ice in the water stations. It will be hot tomorrow.

ronnie, if we start at exactly at 5:30AM tomorrow, the sun is about to rise when we are about to leave the Skyway. i think the sun will rise at 6:40AM and by that time we should be back on the shaded parts of buendia avenue. thanks for the comment.

bards, you are right. it might be hard to go uphill but it also hard to go downhill if you can not control your pace/speed. going fast on the downhill will be hard on your quads. anyway, for whatever loss of time you got on the uphill, you must be able to regain the loss on the downhill. think positive!

mark, the gradient at the Skyway is very minimal as compared to the stair climbs we did. anyway, we will not be looking down the osmena highway while running along the skyway. there is no way we could do that. so, there will be no problem. good luck and see you at the starting line. hey, don’t wear your Vibram-5!

I didnt wear the vibram 5 today, instead opted for real shoes – Asics ds racer 7 : ) Though I did chop 1 minute plus of my previous pr for the 21, what’s significant is the lower average heart rate for the same distance. At 169 bpm, that’s just 85% of my mhr.

Congrats to my team mates for their new PRs, bilis natin lahat : ) Im just thankful I can run again.

Br, you exceeded your target again. Smart move on the pacer. 🙂
