174 Days: Adidas KOTR Official Results & BHS Evening Run

Thanks, RunningDatcom and The Bull Runner , for posting the results of the Adidas “King of the Road” 10K and 21K races.

My official time for the 21K race was 1:47:56 hours with an average pace of 5:09 minutes per kilometer. I was # 100 among the 717 finishers and placed # 10 among the 50+ years old runners. My GF 305 finish time was slower by one minute from the digital clock’s time at the finish. This was the reason why I was wondering why my watch was registering 1:47+ while the digital clock at the finish line was showing 1:46+ before I reached and passed the finish line. Anyway, “officially” my time was 1:47:56 hours but I would rather stick to my GF 305 finish time (1:48:55 hours) for my personal record.

After looking at the results of your own race last Saturday’s Adidas “King of the Road” 10K/21K races, I am sure all of those who had their PR best times would be happy and celebrating this time and they would want another race in the next weeks to come for them to improve their PR best time some more. If you think you belong to this kind of runner who is looking for more races to improve, then, welcome to “The Club”! This is the Club of the “hardcore; running-addict; and crazy” runners. These runners run almost everyday, rain or shine, to test the limits of their body endurance. These are the people who are understand the principles of training in running where one would be “patient and consistent” in his running workouts. As I said basing from my experiences, there are no “miracle pills and shortcuts” for anyone to be a faster runner. Everything is a product of hardwork and perseverance…and self-discipline.

Having said that, I went to Bonifacio High Street (BHS) yesterday afternoon to check on some items sold in one of the sports stores before going to my early evening run. I was already wearing my running kit when I visited some of the sports stores in the area with no intention of buying but to browse on some items. I started my run at 5:47 PM along the BHS big loop and after seven (7) loops, I proceeded to an uphill road going to the US Cemetery Circle and did ten (10) repetitions of fast interval hill runs with recovery run going downhill. I estimated the distance of the uphill road to about 100 meters. The uphill road was slightly inclined but the “high-knee” leg action, as I did my fast uphill runs, and “burst” of speed were enough as part of my speed “drills”. I could feel that my legs were hurting and my lungs were “burning” but I know I need this interval training as part of my training. After this “speed drill”, I returned to the BHS big loop and did another two rounds until it started to rain hard. It did not matter if I was soaked with the rain and my sweat because I promised to myself that I will continue to run whether it will “rain or shine”.

I did not stop my GF 305 during yesterday’s workout while I was doing my “hill repeats” and it registered the following data:

Distance—14.31 kms                     Time—1:25:46 hrs

Average Pace—5:59 mins/km                   Average Speed—10 kms/hr

Maximum Speed—16 kms/hr                   Total Calories—1,052 cal

Average HR—141 bpm                              Maximum HR—159 bpm

Total Ascent—1,398 meters                     Total Descent—1,262 meters

    Sir,

My first thought when I saw the 21k results and your standing was ,”Wow, what a coincidence…”. First, the 888 bib and now 100th place. 🙂 Congrats again.

Like yours, my ‘official’ results were also a minute faster than what was on the finish line timer. But no complaints here.. See you at the races.

What can we say? You seem to be setting new PRs in every race. That’s the product of self-discipline and rigorous yet enjoyable training. You are nearly heating three digit Ks per week. That’s really amazing! And the best part of it is you enjoy doing your every run. This should set as an example to our runners out there. You push yourself unreasonably hard during training to gain a new PR and you will end up reaping injuries or burn out instead. Running should always be fun. Though we are not yet in competitive running, it reminds of Haile Geb who just dipped down to 2:03 marathon WR. He seemed to be happy and smiling in the starting line during races while other elite runners seem to be ready to piss in their pants. I know the Philippine running community is grateful to you. The older we get, the faster and the longer the races we join. We really have to…”Add life to our years, not years to our life.”

ivan, i was surprised, too! i was # 10 among the 50+ years old runners. i guess, it would had been better if i was # 88 overall and # 8 in my age group. keep on running!

fuerzaarmada, that is the message i would like to impart to my readers..if you want to enjoy life, enjoy the things where you are happy and at peace. and if you want to attain a goal, work hard for it and be ready to meet the challenges along the way. we are here to inspire people. thanks for that nice and commendable comment.
