Congrats to all finishers and DNFers. It wouldn’t be BDM102 if everybody finished. The scorching heat was difficult for everyone. I was amazed by the display of sportsmanship from everyone as all runners and their support crews helped each other in foods and drinks. Thank you to Kiko’s crew for the hot pandesal and pouring ice cold water on my head.
Thank you Sir Jovie for putting together a top class event.

After finishing this race, I would like to help out with the website maintenance part [content aspect] for your next BDM102k. And if the 159k event pushes through with a lot of runners, I will be joining that one too. Thank you so much for organizing this race. We will send you the link updates on the pictures and a CD to your office for your use as well. Till then, all the best!

Congratulations on your successful event. Hey was there anyone among the runners who was a direct descendant of the original walkers? Maybe a grandson or great grandson? What a fantastic story that would be.

cecil, i guess, there are runners who are connected with those original walkers but they are silent. however, i suspect that those who cried at the finish line have one or the other connection with the original walkers.

Sir Jovie,
Jose Ma. Mateo Galauran of CAMANAVA RUNNERS, my grandfather Simplicio Felipe Mateo was one of the survivors of the original Bataan Death March. After finishing the race and returning home my mother told me that my grandfather was one of the original survivors of the Bataan Death March. It is but until now that I have realized why he was buried in the Libingan ng mga Bayani in fort Bonifacio. Maybe he is the one who guided me to participate and finally finishing the race. To all the participants support crew in this memorable event thank you very much for remembering the HEROES of Bataan DEATH March. To Bald Runner may you continue this very inspiring tradition of BDM102 ULTRAMARATHON.

thank you, jose. you are indeed very lucky to be a part of this ultramarathon race. your grandfather must be smiling and happy knowing that you have retraced his experience 68 years ago. i think you have to make a story/memoir about this event and how it is connected to your family. congrats!

Hi BR,
This is the toughest race I’ve done!!! Even tougher than Comrades Marathon, although it was only 12km longer… Although the route was very flat (less the first 20km of the race), the condition that runners, support crew and even the volunteers had to endured makes it an extreme event (to run, to support & to volunteer)… This is not for the faint-hearted…
P.S. Btw, a BIG THANKS to all the support crews of other runners who had helped me with water, sports drink, ice, sunblock, and encouragement… I truly appreciate everything that you had given me… Esp the volunteer just before the 91km mark… He gave up his one and only apple juice to me after seeing that i had nothing else to drink…

kelly, thanks for joining the race. i still remember what you said to me at the finish line that you will not recommend this race to your running friends because of the challenging heat & humidity during daytime. i hope that after you have rested & recovered, you will be able to change your mind and invite others to experience what it takes to be a finisher of BDM 102. good luck on your future races!

This race was a life changer.
I came to a point where I was about to give up. I saw myself a failure after km50 when I could not bend my right knee anymore. Even with enough energy to push me through, the heat, exhaustion, demons in my mind..they were all partying on my mind….and then a barrage of encouragement from fellow runners and text messages from takbo.ph members bombarded my mobile and I kept on reading those messages while walking. From my self-perceived failure, I broke away from status-quo and ran/but mostly walked the remaining 52km with gusto to finish this race.
..and then I came, saw and conquered Bataan Death March!
Thanks for the experience sir Jovie. This is one of the highlights of my life *shed a tear*

Hi sir BR,
First, congratulations to all the finishers (your training paid-off!)
Congratulations also to you & the BR events team for organizing such a one of a kind running event! BDM102 was the longest race I ran so far and the crazy El Niño heat really pushed me out of my limits.
May typo-error lang po sa time ko. It should be 17:44:25 instead of 14:44:25. (how I wish I could run that fast hehe)
With more time to prepare and train, I’m hoping to do the longer distance next year. Thanks again and more power!
