Hi BR. Thank you for sharing the New Balance comment. We've heard in Asia and in Europe, people there are finding B (women) and D (men) widths okay but not the wide. I'll pass that on to our store manager and the owner. Our corporate needs that kind of feedback. In part, through my constant feedback with NB corporate, I've helped New Balance in making the shoes a little softer (a lot like the way Asics is now). Fellow runners and I here felt that the shoes were too stiff and not soft enough. There are still strides that have to be made.

Regarding the Runnex race, is that a race that Coach Rio is involved in? I'm only curious because as far as registration, it may be easier whether it's a Coach Rio sponsored race or the New Balance one. Yesterday, I e-mailed the NB - Philippines site regarding more info on their run.

Regarding the Philippines, back in February 2003, on my return from Hong Kong, there was a one hour plus layover in Manila. I got to see the beautiful islands coming in and the skyline of Manila as we were ascending. Likely within a week, I'll make a decision on the date and let you, loonyrunner, Coach Rio and others know.

Thanks again for all the info and good luck Sunday. - Wayne

P.S. - I received an e-mail yesterday from the SF Marathon. I need to complete the marathon to receive the aluminum water bottle. Though that was neat!

wayne, the NB stores here offer double EE wide shoes and i could not see D size for me here. that's the reason why i opted to use ASICS. i heard the NB Power Race last year held in Clark Freeport was a nice race (5, 10, & 20K races) and it was featured in our daily broadsheets but i wasn't able to join the said race. hopefully, the Runnex 26th on the 1st sunday of december will be a nice 10K run which has a lot of sponsors and i was able to join the race last year. hey, man, is this your 1st time to visit the Philippines? we'll be honored to welcome you and for you to meet the runners-bloggers in the country.

ray, as far i am concern, they are the best in running shoes. the GTs are nice and versatile running shoes. that's juvenal's advice--anima sana in corpore sano! see you on sunday!

Hi BR!

Thanks for sharing this article with us .

It seems that the brand truly stands up to what the acronym means: Anima Sana In Corpore Sano - a sound mind in a sound body. I am also an Asics user (they had great basketball shoes before; now, I run with GT-2130).

I hope to see you on Sunday.

BR, thank you for sharing the article. Asics for the last several years has been the number #1 running shoe company in the world. Working at a rival company (New Balance), I've never knocked how well the Asics shoes work.

I found the New Balance 902 being good and the 903 version even better for racing. Regarding my training, I'm now wearing the Asics Gel Nimbus and the Mizuno Wave Rider. New Balance has made strides but they have a long way to go to catch Asics.

BR, I mentioned this to promethuscometh on his blog. I'm down to two dates regarding vacation. Obviously, besides seeing the running community, I'm planning running in a race while in the Philippines. It will be either the New Balance Power Race (November 15-16) or the Runnex 25 (December 7). The reason this came up is that our store has a six week window for vacations (November 1-December 15). If you have any thoughts on the two races, let me know. Thanks again. BTW, good luck this Sunday at Mizuno. I wish I were there.
